# How to Cancel Your Domain Name Registration

Once a domain name has been registered, it cannot be canceled directly. However, you can cancel associated services like web hosting. Here’s what you need to know:

### Domain Expiration

* **Automatic Lapse**: Domain names will automatically lapse if not renewed. In most cases, your domain will expire if you do not pay the renewal fees, after which it will be deleted and canceled automatically.

Once you cancel a domain name registration, it will become available for registration by others.
{% endhint %}

### Cancelling Subscription Services

If you decide to cancel your domain name, it’s advisable to also cancel any attached subscription services, as these will not be automatically canceled.

### Steps to Cancel Your Domain Name

1. **Turn Off Auto-Renewal**: To prevent further billing, turn off the auto-renewal feature in the Customer Portal.
2. **Decision to Keep the Domain**: If you change your mind and want to keep your domain, you must either enable the auto-renewal feature or manually renew your domain within the Customer Portal.

Regularly check your domain settings in the Customer Portal to avoid any unexpected renewals or expirations.
