Ordering runs in three steps: configure the plan, review the basket, then checkout. One thing decides whether you get through the last step, so deal with it first.
From plan to order
Configure the plan
Configure & order on a plan card opens the configure form. Two fields sit under Server identity.
Hostname is required. The helper text says "Letters, numbers, dots and dashes only", and underscores are accepted too. It has to start with a letter or a number and be at least 3 characters long. Below that the submit button reads Enter a hostname, which is the only clue about the length floor.
Root password defaults to Generate a secure password and email it to me, which is ticked when the page loads. Untick it to set your own, minimum 8 characters. Until it is long enough the submit button reads Set a password.
Pick a billing cycle
The Billing cycle panel lists one row per price the plan carries: Monthly, Quarterly, Semi-Annually, Annually, Biennially, Triennially, and anything else as a number of months. Each row shows a per-month figure on the left and the charge for the whole cycle on the right. The Total underneath is the amount for one full cycle, not a monthly charge.
The Save percentage on a row compares against the shortest cycle the plan prices. That is usually the monthly price, but for a plan with no monthly price the comparison is against whatever its shortest cycle is, so read the per-month figures on the rows rather than trusting the percentage.
The same cycle is named differently in two places: a card in the category listing calls 12 months "Yearly", this panel calls it "Annually". They are the same thing.
Add to basket
Add to basket puts the configured plan in your basket and takes you there.
Quantity is fixed at one per line, and there is no quantity control anywhere in the buying flow. To order two servers, configure the plan twice.
There is a single basket per account. Configuring a second plan adds a second line to the same open basket rather than starting a separate order.
Review the basket
Each line shows the plan name, its spec chips, the quantity and cycle, the hostname, and the line total. The only per-line control is the trash icon, which removes it. You cannot change the quantity, the cycle or the hostname here.
A promo code goes in the Promo code box and is applied with Apply. An accepted code appears as a chip with the amount it took off and an X to remove it. If a code is refused, the message is the same for most reasons, so a rejection does not tell you whether the code is expired, mistyped, or does not apply to what is in your basket.
The summary shows Subtotal, Discount, Tax and Total. The Total is tax-inclusive: tax is inside that number, not added at the end. On a fresh basket no billing address is attached to the order yet, so Tax is normally 0 at this point and the Total is lower than the invoice you end up with.
Checkout moves you on.
The basket with one line. Tax reads 0 because no billing address is attached to the order yet, so this Total is lower than the invoice you will get. The number matches step 4. Amounts are left out of this example. Example view. Fill in checkout
Checkout is one page with three cards and a summary.
Items & servers carries the hostnames, one per line, under the note "Give each server a hostname before placing the order." Each one is already filled in from the configure form and collapsed to a read-only row with a Change link, so you are not asked twice. Edit basket goes back to the basket.
Billing address is a radio list of the addresses on your account, used for tax and as the invoice contact. Picking one attaches it to the order and re-prices it, which is when tax appears.
Payment offers Saved methods and New payment. The two-way switch is only there if you already have a saved method, otherwise the card goes straight to the new-payment path.
If Clouduxe has active terms, a checkbox sits in the summary reading "I have read and agree to the" and the name of the terms, which opens them. Both order buttons stay disabled until it is ticked, and the button reads Accept the terms to continue.
Place the order
With a saved card selected, Place order creates the invoice and charges that card. Without one, Continue to payment creates the invoice and moves you to the payment step. The invoice is named in the page address from that point on, so a reload does not strand you.
Either button turns the basket into an invoice, and that is one-way. The basket is emptied, the lines cannot be edited afterwards, and from that point you are paying an invoice rather than editing an order.
The total can change at this step
Tax is worked out from the billing address attached to the order, and the address is attached when you pick one from the list, or otherwise at the moment the invoice is created. An order that never had an address picked therefore shows a Tax row of 0 through the basket and checkout, and comes back as an invoice with tax on it.
If you close the page after the invoice exists
Once the basket has been converted, the order shows in your order history with a total and no way to pay it: there is no payment link on that list. Finish the payment from your invoices instead, where the invoice is waiting and unpaid. See Paying an invoice.
