The wallet is a credit balance held on your account rather than against any one invoice. You put money into it in advance, then spend it on invoices as they are issued.

Your balance

The Wallet balance card is the figure you have available, described in the panel as "Funds available to apply to invoices automatically." A second line appears under it showing a pending amount when a top-up has been taken but has not cleared yet.

The Credit & wallet page. The large figure is what you can spend, and the pending line under it is a top-up that has not cleared. Step 1 of adding funds is Add credit. The Transactions table holds the most recent movements. Example view. Amounts, dates and descriptions are examples.

The balance is held in one currency, your account currency. That matters when you come to spend it, so it is worth knowing which currency your account is in before you top up. See Tax and currency.

Adding funds

The Add wallet credit dialog. The numbers match steps 2 to 4 below; step 1 is Add credit. The submit button spells out the currency and amount you are about to add. Example view. The cards are examples.
  1. Open Add credit

Add credit sits at the top right of the wallet page and opens a dialog titled Add wallet credit.

  2. Pick an amount

The field is labelled Amount with your currency code after it. Use one of the preset amounts or type your own. The minimum is 1 and the maximum is 1,000,000, with at most two decimal places.

  3. Choose how to pay

Under Pay with, pick a payment route. When your account has only one, the label reads Paying with and the single option is shown as a statement of what will be charged rather than something to select.

  4. Finish the payment

The submit button reads Add followed by the currency and amount. Paying with a gateway rather than a saved card hands you off to that gateway's own page to finish.

Coming back from a gateway, the page carries a banner: a confirmation that the payment was received and that the balance updates once it clears, or, if you backed out, "Top-up cancelled. No charge was made." The credit is not added by the panel, it lands when the payment clears upstream, so the balance can lag the payment by a little.

If there is no Add credit button

The button renders only when there is a payment route that works for your account currency: either a saved card, or a gateway that accepts hosted top-ups in that currency. Nothing on the page explains its absence.

Cards are saved by paying an invoice with one, not by adding them directly, so the usual way to get the button back is to pay an invoice by card. See Payment methods. If that is not an option for you, open a ticket.

Transactions

The Transactions table lists what has gone in and out: Date, Description, Type, Amount, and Balance after. Export CSV downloads those rows, with the currency included as an extra column.

Only the most recent 25 transactions are ever listed, and the export covers the same 25. There is no paging and no date range, so older movements are not reachable from this page.

Applying credit to an invoice

Credit is spent from the invoice, not from the wallet page. On an invoice with a balance outstanding, Use credit opens a dialog titled Apply wallet credit, which tells you what you hold and how much of it this invoice can take. Set the amount and press Apply credit.

The cap is whichever is smaller, your balance or the amount still unpaid on the invoice. Applying part of your balance is fine, and so is applying credit to part of an invoice and paying the rest another way.

The currencies have to match

Use credit appears only when the currency of your wallet balance is exactly the currency of the invoice. There is no conversion, and there is no message when the check fails.

One wallet in euros against two invoices. On the euro invoice, Use credit appears and can apply up to the smaller of the balance and the amount unpaid. On the invoice in pounds there is no button and nothing to say why. Illustration. Amounts are examples.

So a positive balance on the wallet page and no Use credit button on the invoice is not a bug in your account, it is that check. It happens when the invoice was issued in a different currency from your wallet, and also when the balance comes back without a currency recorded against it at all. Pay the invoice by another route, and open a ticket if you expected the credit to cover it.

Refunding your balance

The Refund credit card takes the balance back out to the payment method it came from. Request refund opens Refund wallet credit, which asks for a reason, and Submit refund request files it.

Two things to be clear about. First, this is a request: it is reviewed by the team, and the panel does not move any money itself. Second, a refund request covers your whole wallet balance. Asking for part of it back is not something the request can carry, so treat this as refunding the balance rather than withdrawing an amount, and top the wallet back up afterwards if you want to keep credit on the account.

If your balance is zero there is nothing to refund, and the form will not submit.
