Tax and currency

Why the total you see is the total you pay, the currencies Clouduxe prices in, and how a company or VAT number changes an invoice.

Two things decide what a Clouduxe invoice says: the tax worked out from your billing address, and the currency your account is denominated in. Both are set once and then follow every order you place.

The total already includes tax

Totals are tax inclusive. On an invoice, Subtotal is the amount before tax, Tax is its own line, and Total already has that tax inside it. The basket and the checkout summary work the same way: a subtotal before tax, a separate tax line, and a tax-inclusive total.

Nothing is added on top at the payment step. Tax is inside the total rather than appended to it, so the only thing that moves the figure you pay is what is already recorded against the invoice: a discount, an amount paid, or credit applied. The invoice's Amount due is what a payment charges you.

How an invoice's figures fit together. Subtotal and Tax make the Total, so the tax is already inside it. The summary then splits the same Total into what has been paid, what has been credited and what is still due, and a payment charges the Amount due. Illustration: block sizes are not to scale.

Tax is worked out from the billing address on the order, not from your card or your server's location, and it is calculated when the order is priced. That means it only resolves once an address is on your account, and every VPS, Dedicated server, and DDoS-Protected Proxy product is set up to carry tax when your address makes it due. Add or check your address first: Billing addresses.

The currencies Clouduxe prices in

Five currencies carry real catalogue prices:

  • CAD
  • EUR
  • GBP
  • INR
  • USD

Those are the ones to use. The currency selector on your account is restricted to currencies the catalogue prices in.

Your account currency

Every figure in the billing area follows one currency, the one set on your account. There is no currency switcher on the billing pages, so what you see there is whatever your account is denominated in, and your wallet balance is held in that currency too.

Invoices are the exception in one direction: an invoice keeps the currency it was issued in. Changing your preference later does not restate an invoice that already exists.

Changing the account currency from euros to pounds. An invoice already issued keeps its currency and new orders are quoted in the new one. Credit you already hold stays in euros and can no longer pay the new invoices. Illustration. Amounts are examples.
AccountProfile

The Preferred currency card holds the setting. Pick a code under Default currency and press Save. Save stays disabled until you choose something different from what is already stored, so if the button looks dead, the value has not changed yet. The setting is stored against your billing account and applies to what you are quoted on new orders and to what the panel displays.

If the currency you want is not in the list, it is not one the catalogue prices in. Open a ticket rather than ordering in a currency that is close to it.

Companies and VAT

Adding a company puts your business name on your invoices and records a VAT number against the account. The panel notes that a valid EU VAT number may exempt you from VAT charges: that call is made by the billing system when the invoice is issued, not by the panel at the point you type the number.

Two things to get right when you add one:

  • The panel does not check the VAT number you enter, so read it back before you save.
  • There is no edit control on a saved company. Correcting a detail means deleting the record and adding it again.

A company is attached to an address, so add a billing address before you add the company. Full steps are on Companies and VAT.
