Payment methods

A card is saved when you pay an invoice with it, and there is no way to add one ahead of time. What that means for auto-pay and for removing a card.

A card gets onto your account by being used to pay an invoice. There is no add-a-card button in the panel and nothing to fill in ahead of time, so if you have been looking for one, that is why you cannot find it.

How a card gets saved

Pay an invoice by card and the payment gateway stores that card against your account. It then appears on this page, and auto-pay switches on with it. Your card details go to the gateway directly; Clouduxe does not see or hold the number.

That is the only route. Until you have paid an invoice by card, the page shows No saved payment methods and there is nothing to set up. Each invoice arrives by email and you pay it yourself. See Paying an invoice for the payment routes, and Wallet and credit if you would rather cover invoices from a credit balance.

What a saved card shows

Each saved method is a card on the page, carrying:

  • the gateway holding it, and the name the gateway gives it
  • Expires with the expiry date, or Added with the date it was stored when no expiry is reported
  • a green Default badge on the method auto-pay charges
  • a red Invalid badge when the gateway reports the stored method as no longer active

An Invalid badge is the gateway's verdict, not the panel's. To replace that card, pay your next invoice with a working one, which saves it here.

Auto-pay

The Auto-pay card at the bottom of the page reports one of two states: Auto-pay is active, naming the method that will be charged, or Auto-pay is off.

Auto-pay charges your default method on each due date so services renew without interruption. There is no on and off switch for it. It follows entirely from whether you have a default method: have one and it is on, have none and it is off.

Changing which card is the default

Every method except the current default carries a Make default button. Click it and that method becomes the one auto-pay charges. The default itself has no such button, because it is already the default.

Removing a card

Click Remove on the card. A confirmation dialog titled Remove payment method? appears, and Yes, remove completes it.

A removed card cannot be added back

There is no add-a-card flow to return to. The only way to save that card again is to pay another invoice with it, which stores it fresh. Do not remove a card you still intend to use.

What removing one does to auto-renewing services

If the card you remove is the default, auto-pay stops with it. The removal dialog does not mention this. From that point nothing is charged automatically: each invoice arrives by email and you pay it yourself, from the invoice.

If you have another card saved, make it the default before removing the old one, so renewals are never left without a method to charge.

Removing a card cancels nothing. Your services keep running, they keep renewing, and invoices keep being raised on the same schedule. Only the automatic charge stops. Whether a service renews at all is a separate setting on the service itself, covered in Renewals and refunds.
